Carr Hardware Store

In 1912, A.A. Hamilton and J.F. Hamilton bought the A.L Potter Hardware Store at 231 Main Street. The store was named after Bill Carr, from Oskaloosa, the first manager. He only worked there a few months and never hard a financial interest in the business.

In 1925 they moved to 304 Main Street and Frank Rodger bought A.A. Hamilton's interest in the business. Eventually in 1946, the business expanded to the store front to the west. The sold Tru-Value and eventuall Ace Hardware brand items.

Jim Daffin and Art Ketelson look over ownership in 1966. In 1980, Carr Hardware opened a second location at 615 24th Street. At about that time Art's sons, Jim and Randy got into the business. The Ketelson's would run the business until it's closure in 2003 when it was sold to Muscatine-based Carver Ace Hardware.
