1942 Blizzard

It was New Year’s Day of 1942 when a giant storm made it’s way across the country with the Midwest feeling its full furry. Ames received 24 inches of snow in 24 hours.  After the storm passed, the temperatures dropped to 24 below zero making Ames the coldest spot in Iowa. A photographer for Life Magazine found himself stranded in Ames but made the best of it by creating a two-page spread that ran in the January 19th issue of Life.
