ANNUAL LECTURE SERIES
SECESSIONITUS IN WEST AMES: THE 4TH WARD 'INDEPENDENCE MOVEMENT,' 1914-1920
Virtual - via Zoom - register here
Presented by Douglas Biggs, Professor of History, University of Nebraska-Kearney
On October 20, 1916, a petition was filed in District Court declaring the intention of residents in the area south of the Iowa State campus to separate from Ames and become a separate town. Biggs will chart the beginning rumblings of this action in 1914, the complaints leveled at city leaders about inequities in services and the resolution of this colorful chapter in local history.
