Do not be confused by his nametag. No, it’s not Jan, it’s Tom Harkin as a democratic candidate for U.S. Congress. He spent the day at Benson Motors changing oil, tuning up engines and some minor bodywork. This was his twenty-second “work day”. Harkin said “I’m doing these work days to get a real firsthand look at the normal jobs people do throughout the district, to help me understand them and their problems.” It must have worked because Harkin was elected and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975-1985 and U.S. Senator from 1985-2015.
