Rock the Fair

Audry M. McVay, Luther and Paul A. Durham, DOT Ames area maintenance foreman, load a granite rock on its way to the Iowa State Fair in July 1976. Each county in Iowa submitted a native rock to be machine-carved into the shape of that county. The rocks were pieced together on the grounds at the State Fair to make a sidewalk-type map of Iowa. One inch of rock equaled one mile in the county.
