Literal Dumpster Fire

The Ames Fire Department’s job was made a bit easier when the fire was driven to them on September 24, 1976. Dale Sobotka, driver for Freel Sanitation, delivered a load of smoking garage to the fire station at 5th Street and Kellogg Avenue. The contents were dumped out on the street and firefighters used a booster line to extinguish the fire. No damage was reported to the truck. After the fire was extinguished, a city vehicle scooped up the material and put it back in the garbage truck.
