First Spade for Scheman

With the turning of the first spadeful of dirt on the site of the Scheman Continuing Education Building by ISU president W. Robert Parks came the official startup on the final building of the Iowa State Center complex. About 100 people huddled under the protection of the overhead walkway during the rain-swept ceremony. The $5.2 million building is still used today for conferences, meeting, seminars, and courses. Published in the Ames Tribune on October 8, 1973.
