One of Ames' newest parks was part of the former Hallett’s Quarry. Begun as the Hallett’s/Hayden Project, the collection was created by former Ames Historical Society vice-president and board member, Janet Jepeway. As project director, she began filming from the time the City of Ames took ownership of Hallet's Materials Quarry on January 8, 2002 until her death in June 2006. Janet took both traditional photographs and slides, and spent over 300 hours at the site.
Photographing at the new park every month of the year and during all types of weather, Janet gained extensive knowledge of the plants, animals and other features of the site. With this material she mounted several photo exhibits and arranged for accompanying educational programs to expand on the subject matter of the exhibits. These were open to the public and held at the Story County Conservation Center at McFarland Park. Exhibit and program co-sponsors were Story County Conservation/Partners and Ames Historical Society.
