The Roosevelt: From Classrooms to Condos

Ames Historical Society Lecture Series
The Roosevelt: From Classrooms to Condos

Ames Public Library Auditorium
Free and open to the public

Presented by Teresa Larson, documentary producer, with assistance from Alex Fejfar, videographer

What happens when a school district “shutters a school?”  In most cases, the building is abandoned and sometimes becomes a blight in the neighborhood.  In Ames, there was a school building that “defied the odds.”  A group of passionate citizens and a willing developer rescued Roosevelt School from the wrecking ball and gave the structure new life.  The program will include the Society’s 34-minute film produced by Larson, “The Roosevelt: From Classrooms to Condos,” that chronicles the struggle and illustrates the new way the building is used.  A brief panel discussion will be held afterwards. Former Roosevelt students, faculty and administrators are especially invited to attend.

Presented in partnership with the Ames Public Library
