Fly With Banning Family Event

Ames Public Library Auditorium
Free and open to the public

James Herman Banning became the first African American to receive a U.S. Department of Commerce pilot's license and to complete a transcontinental flight. Banning (portrayed by Jeantique Oriol) and his mechanic Allen (portrayed by Lamar Cheston) will perform a short interactive play, “The Flying Hoboes,” and answer questions. Children and their families are especially encouraged to attend. After the presentation, head upstairs to view the exhibit, which will be on display until February 25.

Presented in partnership by Ames Historical Society, Ames Public Library, and Greatest Stories Never Told.
